And Then There Was Travel
Working out of different offices can be a challenge. Home-base has a certain comfort level which allows for consistency. Home-Home-base has the ability to be extremely focused and uninterrupted. LA-base has the downside of travel time, but other then that I’ve successfully incorporated a seamless integration of work frankly anywhere in the world. As long as I have WiFi, of course, but thanks to Bongo and Sprint that is pretty taken care of for the States. It’s the important things like kids, wife, yard, house, car, bed that make the remote aspects a bit more complicated. It’s one thing to tell a wife/kid “I have to work late and will miss dinner” as opposed to “I’m in a different time zone for the next three days and will see you if you when I get back if haven’t fallen asleep yet.”
Heading out of town for work has been extremely rewarding from a number of aspects, but balancing it has been a challenge. Consistency has never been my strong suit, but as I get older (I know, the day was never suppose to happen) and less adventurous (in the sense of partying all night, staying out till an hour before a client meeting, working/playing/abusing), working without a home to go home to gets old fast. The road-warrior I once was is starting to feel more like the road and less like the warrior.
It’s funny, because the people I meet, the opportunities I am presented, the places I see are amazing. I blog about them. I Twitter about them. I post photos of them. I like them. I am just looking for the appropriate mix of business and life with a family. The family I want to have. The family I hope to keep intact while I travel the land helping individuals/corporations/business with complex solutions that at the end of the day help users interact with a vision/voice/service/product/technology/application that could potentially aid in their lives. I strive to practice what I believe. I strive to better my daily life while helping those I care about. I just hope it’s not in vein. I hope that the balance pays off in the end.
